Interop Functionality

SAMP is an succesor of PLASTIC protocol with a number of technical improvements. SAMP is the default protocol used in VOPlot to communicate with other applications.

To execute VOPlot in PLASTIC mode instead of the default SAMP mode use the following command:

java -jar voplot.jar -plastic

Note: VOPlot can be launched either in SAMP or PLASTIC mode. It cannot work in both the modes at the same time.

To register to an already working SAMP(PLASTIC) hub, click on "Register with SAMP (PLASTIC) hub" from "Interop" menu. If any external hub is not working, one can also start internal hub by clicking on "Start internal hub" from "Interop" menu.

One can send a VOTable plotted in active plot panel to other registered SAMP(PLASTIC) applications by clicking on "Interop-->Send VOTable to" menu. To show selected objects in other registered applications click on"Interop-->Show Objects in".

User can also set certain parameters related to SAMP(PLASTIC) functionality using preferences dialog that comes by clicking on "Preferences" submenu from "Interop" menu. This dialog sets two parameters:

  1. Launch Internal Hub automatically on start up: starts internal hub of VOPlot automatically when VOPlot gets launched, when enabled.
  2. Send "Show Objects" message on the selection of points: automatically sends selected objects to all Plastic registered applications on selection of points in VOPlot, when enabled.
